  • Step One
    Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a 6cm-deep, 20cm x 28cm baking dish. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring, for 5 mins or until onion softens. Add mince and cook, stirring with a wooden spoon to break up lumps, for 5 mins or until browned. Add taco seasoning and cook for 30 secs or until aromatic. Add beans and tomato. Cook for 3 mins or until heated through. Season. Stir in the chopped coriander.
    To make bechamel sauce, melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add flour and cook for 1 min. Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth. Cook, stirring, for 5 mins or until the mixture boils and thickens. Season.

    Step Two
    Place 2 tortillas over the base of prepared dish, trimming to fit. Spread with one-quarter of mince mixture and drizzle with ¼ cup bechamel sauce. Repeat layering with remaining tortillas, mince mixture and bechamel sauce. Sprinkle with the cheese.
    Bake for 25-30 mins

  • Method
    Combine flour, yeast, salt and sugar in a bowl. Make a well. Add water and oil. Use your hands to bring dough together.
    Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Brush a bowl with oil. Add dough. Turn over to coat with oil.
    Cover with a damp tea towel. Set aside in a warm place for 30 minutes or until dough doubles in size. Gently punch down dough with your fist.
    When ready to cook pizza, preheat oven to 200°C. Knead pizza dough for 30 seconds or until dough is original size. It is now ready to place in a pizza tray lightly dusted with polenta.
    Top with tomato paste, vegetables and cheese. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until golden.

    Throughout its facilities in Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia and the UK, Saputo transforms approximately 11 billion liters of milk per year into a variety of dairy products for customers and consumers, The Company has completed 36 acquisitions since it became publicly traded in 1997, with products sold in over 60 countries, with 67 production bases, 19,200 employees and tens of thousands of cooperative ranches.

  • 2020

    In August 2020, Saputo merged its USA divisions into a single division, now known as the Dairy Division (USA). This decision was made to allow Saputo to have a more agile USA platform.

  • 2019

    In October 2019, Saputo acquired the specialty cheese business of Lion Dairy & Drinks Pty Ltd, based in Australia. This acquisition enabled the Dairy Division (Australia) to further diversify its product offering, adding to and complementing its current activities.Saputo extends its operations across Australia.

  • 2015

    Saputo's Australian subsidiary, Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory Company Holdings Limited (“WCB”) acquired the everyday cheese business (“EDC Business”) of Lion-Dairy & Drinks Pty Ltd based in Victoria, Australia. This acquisition allowed WCB to increase its presence in consumer branded everyday cheese products segment in Australia with strong market positions in this segment.

    Saputo enters Australia,Saputo acquired an interest of 87.92% of Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory Company Holdings Limited.

  • 2008

    Saputo acquired the activities of Wisconsin-based Alto Dairy Cooperative. Operations included the production of Italian and American style cheeses, as well as whey, which are marketed across the country under various brand names. 

  • 2003

    Saputo expanded beyond North America through the acquisition of Molfino Hermanos S.A., Argentina’s third largest milk processor.

  • 2001

    Saputo became the number one player in the Canadian milk processing industry through its acquisition of Dairyworld Foods. 

  • 1997

    Saputo successfully went public in 1997 with its initial public offering.

  • 1990

    Throughout the nineties, Saputo secured several strategic acquisitions, enabling it to diversify its production and its geographical distribution. 

  • 1988

    Saputo established its first manufacturing presence in the United States by acquiring two cheese plants.

  • 1984

    Saputo acquired a plant in Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, which processed liquid whey resulting from its cheese production into value-added products such as lactose and whey protein.

  • 1970

    Saputo acquired several manufacturing plants and developed a national distribution network to meet its rapidly increasing needs.

  • 1960

    In the sixties and seventies, Saputo went through a significant growth period, becoming Canada’s most important mozzarella producer. 

  • 1954

    Lino Saputo convinced his father, Giuseppe, to start his own business. In September 1954, using $500 to buy some basic equipment and a bicycle for deliveries, the Saputo family founded a cheese making company bearing its name. Saputo quickly established itself in Montréal’s Italian community.

  • 1950

    Master cheesemaker Giuseppe Saputo and Frank, his eldest son, left their small village of Montelepre, close to Palermo, Sicily, and immigrated to Canada, convinced it was the ideal country to provide a better future for their family in the wake of the Second World War.

    Arriving in Canada in search of a brighter future, the Saputo family settled in Montréal and planted the seeds of what is now a global company. After modest beginnings, the Company’s founders saw their determination, hard work, passion and vision transform Saputo into an industry leader, both in Canada and around the world.
